Theres no benefit on catching a multicolored pokemon or as known as Shiny Pokemons. The only thing special about them is that every time you encounter a pokemon you have a 1/8000 chance of seeing one. So I recommend you catching one if you see it. because they are very very rare. The Gastrodons you caught was probably one of the two colors of Gastrodons like Pink in the West side and Blue in the East side. You can tell if its a shiny pokemon if it glows and sparkles come out when it does its cry .
